Leading Edge Musical Tuition Specialising in adult students and advanced techniques.
My teaching philosophy is this. I believe that each individual component of music is simple to understand. When taught well,it’s when you put them all together that makes your playing impressive. I like to teach my students a well rounded technical/theoretical/practical way so they can become independent musicians with a “working” knowledge of theory. I also like to teach performance coping techniques which have proved quite successful over the years to both professionals and ametuers alike. I love helping people write and arrange songs and am a registered member of the Australian Performing Rights Association who pay me every time one of my songs that I have written is performed live. I love teaching people to “listen” to music and hear the chord changes and what they mean. I also love teaching people to read music and to write chord charts. My students also do well in their eistedfodd performances. I love teaching adults and specialize in teaching advanced Jazz Theory on all instruments. I am well known as a boogie, blues and jazz player and teacher and have often given lessons to classical teachers to help them understand modern music structure and jazz theory. I have professional experience on many instruments and recently recorded harmonica and body percussion for a bands CD. I also play and teach guitar, bass, flute, bass clarinet, clarinet, ukelele, piano ( classical and jazz), synthesizer, singing, harmonica, alto sax, tenor sax, song writing, song arranging, computer use for music, stage craft, theory both classical and jazz. I am well known for teaching performance coping technique for performers of many ages and exam students and used to run a successful group on The Central Coast called “ The Practice Performance Club” which is still spoken highly of these days. Over the years, I have also taught in schools, both privately and groups. I also have 20 years of advising and helping students and the like re instrument purchase, both new and 2nd hand, repairs and maintenance. Not only piano but many instruments. eg. I recently helped a classical singer buy a suitable guitar and also taught him some blues guitar and jazz singing over the holidays so that he could fit in better with his mates in uni. I have been teaching for 25 years. I have successfully put many students through AMEB exams( Achieving 2 high distinctions in AMEB Theory exams in 2012 and Honors in the playing side of things) , eisteddfods and HSC, however, my main passion lies in teaching improvisation. I have helped a lot of teachers and adults cross over from classical to modern/jazz/improvising. My Musical Interests: Are, performing, encouraging other people to perform, especially youth. The eisteddfod. The styles I am renowned for are Boogie Woogie piano, blues, jazz and rock. Writing original music.
